Ann Durham
"I have spent most of my married years living the outdoor life in the Yorkshire Dales. I cannot remember a time when I didn’t love walking. As a young girl I would pack up my flask and find my way up Pendle Hill. I couldn’t read a map then, but I got through a lot of flasks. I did my Mountain Leadership (summer) training when my three daughters were little. I didn’t get the chance to go for an assessment until they had grown up and left home, but that didn’t stop me walking. I gained my M.L. (summer) in 2003 along with a First Aid certificate, which I renew every three years. I have climbed many mountains in Scotland, the Lakes and my M.L. assessment was in Wales. I also love walking long distance trails so have walked many. I try to have an adventure every year and last year I
went walking on the small Islands of Rum, Eigg and Canna.
In past years I have walked in the Dolomites and the Austrian Alps, leading mixed aged groups. Swedish Lapland (Arctic) was for myself. I work for the Youth Service with young people, Duke of Edinburgh expedition training, so I am often to be seen with my backpack in the Dales. I have been working with Girl guiding U.K. for 30 years and at the moment I am North East England Region Walking Adviser. Any excuse I can find I am out walking and I grabbed the opportunity to walk in Sunny Spain.
The level of walking around Montserrat will be intermediate. One day we could catch the cable car to gain height and then explore the mountain. We can also wander through the olive groves stopping for lunch. Ramble along many of the paths calling in at a village along the way. Taking in the smells and finding the beautiful flowers. Each day will be a different adventure. I will be available for 5 days walking up to a maximum of 5/6 hours out. You may wish to have a day off and relax by the pool or take in the History of Barcelona."
