About us

We are 3 artists, a painter, a ceramicist and a sculptor, who really wanted to change our lifestyles. Having all lived in cities, Jason and Shaun in London, and Jean-Marc in Geneva, we wanted to drop out a little bit and run away to the country, and have a more outside kind of life.

We bought this old farmhouse set in 5 acres of land and have lovingly renovated and brought it back to life. The garden is a bit wild with grasses and marigolds popping up wherever they want, and that’s how we like it. There are apple trees, pears, apricots, almonds and we have 6 fig trees that overload us with fruit in the autumn. We also have a small swimming pool to cool off in on really hot days.

We enjoy growing our own vegetables and herbs and Jamie our neighbour gives us loads of help and tips, he has an amazing allotment and often donates a cabbage or two and sometimes a wild rabbit. Food and drink is a big part of your stay here at Cal Catiu and we cook using seasonal local produce as much as possible. You will experience traditional catalan and spanish cuisine, like butifarra, a delicious sausage made in the village, and mongetes, white beans cooked in olive oil with garlic and parsley, served with allioli, a garlic mayonnaise.

There are calçots, a cross between a leek and a spring onion, this is practically a catalan national dish, they are barbecued over grapevine trimmings and eaten with a ground almond sauce…delicious. Catalonia is also the home of Cava, the wonderful spanish fizzy wine, and we are surrounded by vineyards and olive groves in this area.
